Tape is now being used to lower data storage costs for data deemed not required on flash or disk; as well as protection from ransomware using the "tape air gap" method.This is an electronically disconnected copy of data that prevents rolling cybercrime disasters from getting to all your backup copies. The only way to create a physical air gap is to copy something to removable media (tape/cartridge) and send that media offsite. This does not work with the cloud!

Degaussers & Data destroyers Degaussing is applying a strong magnetic field to computer tapes, hard disks, audio and video tapes. This field reduces the signal in the magnetic particles (coercitivity) on the recording surface to zero, removing the data, format and any stray signals between tracks called white noise. This process gives a better quality recording surface if the item is to be re-used, and/or destroys the data permanently for security purposes. Certain types of magnetic recording media cannot be re-used once degaussed, which include hard disk drives, LTO tapes, 3570 tapes, 3590/3592 tapes, 9840/9940 tapes and Zip disks. We can also remove data from credit cards, security swipe passes, storage cards and some memory sticks. You protect your data from creation to its last days; don’t let it fall into the wrong hands. Remember formatting the tape or hard drive doesn’t remove the data, the data is still there and it can still be recovered. Only degaussing a tape or disk actually removes the data and prevents it from being recovered! Destroyers describe the group of products which physically destroy the storage medium. We have hard drive crushers, CD/DVD surface destroyers and degaussers which drill holes in the hard drive or tape once they are degaussed.
