The HPE external 1.0m MiniSAS HD to MiniSAS Cable 716189-B21 is a MiniSAS HD SFF8644 to MiniSAS SFF8088 1.0m cable that allows connection between an HBA SAS PCIe external port card and an external LTO tape drive or LTO tape library drive, providing safe and efficient connectivity.

All LTO tape drives, whether external or in a tape library, from LTO1 to LTO8, require a miniSAS SFF-8088 cable end (rectangular miniSAS plug) to plug in. Therefore, any of these LTO-1 to LTO-8 tape drives can use this cable as long as the receiving SAS HBA PCI-e card, SAS adaptor, or network connection where the drive will be plugged in has a miniSAS HD SFF-8644 plug (square-end miniSAS plug). An LTO9 tape drive requires a miniSAS SFF-8644 cable end (square-end miniSAS plug) to plug it in. Therefore, any LTO-9 tape drive can use this cable as long as the receiving SAS HBA PCI-e card, SAS adaptor, or network connection where the drive will be plugged in has a miniSAS HD SFF-8088 plug (square-end miniSAS plug). Otherwise, if they are both miniSAS square plug holes, you will need a miniSAS HD SFF8864-to-miniSAS HD SFF8864 square plug cable on both ends.
