Long wait for both LTO10 Ultrium 10 data cartridges in 30TB & 40TB native capacity
LTO-10 Ultrium 10 data cartridges have been released in 30TB & 40TB native capacities, but lead times for all brands are very long because AI and Cloud providers are buying up all the stock and locking tape suppliers into supply contracts. The wait time for the 30TB/75TB LTO10 Ultrium10 data cartridge is about 3 months, and the wait time for the 40TB/100TB LTO10 Ultrium10 data cartridge is about 12 months.
Please keep this in mind if you are considering upgrading to an LTO-10 tape drive or library, as these drives are not backwards-compatible with LTO-9 Ultrium 9 data cartridges, and therefore you may not get tapes to use for a long time.
Most customers who need to upgrade are moving to LTO-9 Ultrium 9 tape drives because they can still read and write both LTO-9 Ultrium and LTO-8 Ultrium tape cartridges.
