Description
This 2019 Royal Australian Mint (RAM) Police Remembrance $2 coloured uncirculated coin is taken from a RAM bag or RAM roll. It was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of National Police Remembrance Day and to remember and honour Australia's police officers who have died in the line of duty. National Police Remembrance Day is held every year on the 29th of September. The significance of the date of the 29th September is that it is the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, patron saint of police and peacemakers.
The observance of National Police Remembrance Day provides police with an opportunity to commemorate their fallen colleagues and ensure their legacies are preserved. It also enables family members to grieve and honour their loved ones, and act as a reminder to the public of the ultimate price that police might be called upon to pay, as they protect and serve the Australian people.
RAM mintage is 3,566,000 (three million, five hundred and sixty-six thousand), so it is a very rare coin in uncirculated condition. The obverse was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, 4th Effigy, and is made from Cupro-Nickel, which is 92% copper, 6% aluminium, and 2% Nickel. The edge is interrupted-milled; it weighs 6.60 grams and has a diameter of 20.50mm.
This 2019 RAM Police Remembrance $2 coloured uncirculated coin is part of a year-by-year series covering our emergency services: 2020 is the firefighters, 2021 the ambulance service personnel, and lastly, 2022 the frontline workers.
