Description
The IBM LTO7 M8 Ultrium M8 Type M Pre-barcoded Data Cartridge 38L7302 holds up to 9TB of native (uncompressed) capacity, with up to 22.5TB of compressed capacity. The IBM LTO 7 M8 or Type M cartridge has a higher speed of 360 MB/sec when writing natively and up to 900 MB/sec when writing in compressed mode. The IBM LTO Ultrium7 M8 tapes use the Barium Ferrite (BaFe) technology, which improves reliability, longevity and density. The IBM LTO7 M8 tape cartridge 38L7302 is an LTO7 cartridge with a special barcode that allows it to be used in an LTO8 drive for higher capacity and speed. The IBM LTO8 M8 tape is not pre-initialised, and therefore, if the LTO8 drive has the latest release of firmware and the tape has the correct barcode, the LTO8 drive in the tape library will initialise it as an LTO7 M8 or Type M tape with higher capacity and speed than the LTO7 tape it originally was. This will not work with previously used LTO7 tapes or with LTO8 drives in LTO tape libraries that do not have the latest firmware installed. Always check with your tape library manufacturer to ensure you can initialise these tapes in your LTO8 library. Please note that this cartridge is identical to the Lenovo-branded tape, but Lenovo is the retail brand and typically more expensive.
