Description
The IBM LTO 8 WORM Data Cartridge, or IBM LTO Ultrium 8 WORM tape cartridge 01PL042, can hold up to 12TB of native (uncompressed) capacity at a transfer rate of 360MB/sec, and up to 30TB of compressed capacity at a transfer rate of up to 900MB/sec. The IBM LTO 8 WORM tape cartridge is brick red in colour, uses Barium Ferrite (BaFe) as it's storage particles, has 6,656 tracks and is 960m long. The IBM LTO 8 WORM tape is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) tape and is suitable for backup and archive when you wish to keep the data unchanged, but can read it as often as required. The IBM LTO 8 WORM tape cartridge supports partitioning and is backwards compatible, making it suitable for reading and writing on all LTO9 or LTO Ultrium 9 tape drives, and for reading and writing on all LTO8 or LTO Ultrium 8 tape drives. This is the first LTO Ultrium-generation cartridge that cannot be read in its drive and in 2 drives back. Please note that this cartridge is the same as the Lenovo-branded tape, but Lenovo is the retail brand and is usually more expensive!
For the option of LTO barcode labels attached to your tapes, please see Application of Tape Barcode Labels for details.
Drives that use the IBM LTO Ultrium 8 WORM data cartridges 01PL042 are recommended to use the IBM LTO Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge 35L2086 to keep the drive clean.

IBM LTO CARTRIDGE HANDLING:
Handle the IBM LTO Ultrium cartridge carefully. It may be damaged or degraded if it is dropped. Labels should be placed on the front side of the cartridge in the recessed area. Do not put labels anywhere else on the cartridge, as this can damage the drive or cause load errors. When not in use, IBM LTO cartridges should be stored and transported in their individual plastic clamshell case. Do not store cartridges in direct sunlight. Do not expose the cartridge to water or magnetic fields, and do not pull the tape out by hand or remove the screws to open the tape cartridge, as any of these actions may damage the tape and void the warranty.
