2020 RAM Firefighters $2 coloured uncirculated coin

The Royal Australian Mint released the 2020 Australia Firefighters coloured $2 coin to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of both career and volunteer firefighters following the devastating 2019–2020 Australia bushfire season. It is a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of Australia’s firefighters. From our career fire brigade in the city to the thousands of volunteers in the towns and the bush, this coin commemorates and honours their dedication and commitment to protecting all Australians.

Australia is a continent shaped by fire. Ancient ecosystems have evolved needing fire to regenerate and renew, while many Indigenous nations have used fire to manage and maintain the land for millennia.

It is not surprising, then, that Australia’s 170,000-plus firefighters are revered for their bravery and dedication. From the cities to the outback, they protect us from danger and are always prepared to step up when needed. The Aussie ‘firey’ epitomises our ideals of mateship, bravery and support.

The Royal Australian Mint has created this 2020 $2 Coloured Circulating Coin to commemorate our many fearless firefighters and to honour those who have given their lives in protecting our communities. It was released to coincide with the National Memorial for Fire and Emergency Services in October 2020

The mintage of the RAM is 2,000,000 (two million), so it is a very rare coin in uncirculated condition. The reverse is designed by Mint designer Aleksandra Stokic and features her AS initials. The obverse of the coin depicts the newest portrait of the Queen by Jody Clark with his initials JC, and is made from Cupro-Nickel, which is 92% copper, 6% aluminium, and 2% Nickel. The edge is interrupted-milled; it weighs 6.60 grams and has a diameter of 20.50mm.
